I started Pup & Co. because I wanted to help the pups & people in my community live their best lives together, whether that is simply understanding each other better, tips for less stress in everyday life, or navigating difficult behavior issues I am here to help.
In my own experience, I found that having a professional's support can make ALL the difference when it comes to sharing life with dogs!
I have shared life with dogs as long as I can remember, but my real training experience actually started with years of training horses.
Then about eight years ago, I shifted my focus and education to working with dogs. I interned and worked for a West Michigan Training Company and devoted hundreds of hours to the observation and study of canine behavior, psychology, learning theory, and many different training methods so I can confidently provide my clients with training that is up to date and based on more than my own experiences and opinions.
I believe effective training can still be kind. It should build a stronger bond between you and your dog, make meaningful, positive changes, and still fit into your real life.
I offer in-home training in the Muskegon area and beyond, along with helpful products & support, all grounded in kindness and powered by science and canine behavior.
I will help you blend fun and learning into everyday life in a way that seamlessly builds the skills you need and the relationship you want with your dog.
Training Framework
My balanced training approach is centered on humane and kind, treatment of dogs, while teaching the skills they need to live successfully with us.
Informed by the science of how dogs learn, feel, and behave, and rooted in positive reinforcement, structure & comunication.
There isn't a one-size-fits-all approach, so I rely on four pillars to guide me: thoughtfulness, responsibility, flexibility, and education.
-Thoughtfulness: considering both the dog and humans in the equation. How they learn and their individual needs.
-Responsibility: the ethical care and safety for all involved.
-Flexibility: Adapting to what's effective & most supportive for each dog and guardian.
-Education: Commitment to ongoing open-minded learning for myself, so I am able to better support my clients.
Guiding all of this, I follow the principles of LIMA (least intrusive, minimally aversive) along with the humane hierarchy
Ultimately, my goal isn't simply to change behavior. It's to help dogs and their humans better understand each other, build relationships based on trust, and learn how to successfully navigate life together.

They sure seem to LOVE it!!
Dogs trained with positive reinforcement tend to be more willing and confident learners. They look forward to training and share a strong bond with their people. They have shown to be more emotionally reliant and are able to cope better with stressful situations.
If a pup is fearful, reactive, anxious or aggressive then the experts insist positive reinforcement is the ONLY way to safely train!
